“Pavel Vejinov in Bulgarian Literature" National Conference

On 14th of November, in the "St. St. Cyril and Methodius” National Library Conference Hall was held „Pavel Vejinov in Bulgarian Literature” National Conference, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the writer’s birth. The conference was organized by the Institute for Literature and was part of the "Days of Pavel Vejinov" program. The initiative is under the patronage of Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova, Mayor of Sofia, with an Organizing Committee, composed of the Sofia City Library, the Institute for Literature, the "St. St. Cyril and Methodius” National Library, "Ciela” Publishing House, "Enthusiast” Publishing House, Bulgarian National Film Archive and the National Museum of Literature.



The scientific conference brought together scientists from the Institute for Literature - BAS, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski", Veliko Tarnovo University “St. St. Cyril and Methodius ", the Institute for Literature of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. Analyzed were diverse aspects of Pavel Vejinov’s creative life in multidirectional synchronous and diachronic sections, Vejinov’s development from the early "self-correcting" works to the artistic achievements of his mature prose, discussed were the aesthetic and psychological findings in Vejinov’s works from his different creative periods, the moral and existential dilemmas of his characters’ personalities, developed in his later works. The conference ended with the presentation of essays of the winners of the “With “The Barrier” against the barriers” essay contest, which carried an authentic dialogue between several generations of writers. Pavel Vejinov is the first of a series of Sofia writers, who are going to be discussed in a literary critical and literary historical aspects in a series of upcoming scientific sessions.
