Stanka Petrova's research interests are in the field of medieval studies, in which she focuses on old Bulgarian church poetry (hymnography).In 2014 she defended her doctoral dissertation The Hymnographic Repertoire of the Disembodied Forces in Medieval Slavic Liturgical Literature with an emphasis on Mineya. She has been working at the Institute for Literature at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences since 2016
